2016 – 2017

Adrienne Hymes, Missioner for Church Extension in the Diocese of Southwest Florida called to plant a new church in Wesley Chapel


2017

October 19th: The very first group planning meeting for Wesley Chapel Episcopal Church (WCEC) held at St. Anselm’s Episcopal Chapel Center at USF; subsequent meetings take place in conference rooms of car dealerships


2018

February 1: WCEC leases worship space in professional office park at 3758 Maryweather Lane

May 9: WCEC’s first Holy Eucharist celebrated at 7:00 p.m. by the new priest, The Rev. Adrienne Hymes, ordained May 8 (75 attendees)

June-November: Weekday worship services begin (Evening Prayer and Holy Eucharist)

November 4: All Saints’ Day—First Sunday Mass at 8:00 a.m. (trial service with 22 attendees)

December 2: Regular Sunday 8:00 a.m. worship service begins (16 attendees)

December 24: First Christmas Eve Midnight Mass at 10:30 a.m. (41 attendees)


2019

March 6: First Ash Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (21 attendees)

April 14: First Palm Sunday Mass at 8:00 a.m. (25 attendees)

April 19: First Good Friday service at 7:00 p.m. (25 attendees)

April 21: First Easter Sunday Mass at 8:00 a.m. (40 attendees)

April 30: WCEC leases new church location at 3836 Flatiron Loop

May 15: First Visit by The Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith and Confirmation of Dr. Gerene Thompson, WCEC’s first confirmand (29 attendees)


2019
New Permanent Church Home at 3836 Flatiron Loop

May-June: Renovation of new permanent church home at 3836 Flatiron Loop

July 7: First 10:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist at new permanent home (72 attendees)

July 28: The Rt. Rev. Michael Garrison blesses the new baptismal font and
WCEC’s first two baptisms (47 attendees)

October 12: WCEC becomes an Associated Worshiping Community at 51 st
Diocesan Convention

October 13: The Rt. Rev. Dabney Smith’s First Visit and three Confirmations (63 attendees)

December 24: First Christmas Eve Midnight Mass at 10:30 p.m. (53 attendees)


2020

February 26: First Ash Wednesday (19 attendees)

March 8: Final Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass before the pandemic shutdown

April 5: First Palm Sunday—Virtual Service

April 10: First Good Friday—Virtual Service

April 12: First Easter Sunday Mass—Virtual Service

June 28: WCEC resumes in-person worship and retains online streaming (20 attendees)

September 1: WCEC begins renovations on new fellowship hall in suite 103

October 17: 52nd Diocesan Convention affirms mission status for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Wesley Chapel


2021

January 24: Congregation celebrates its first Patronal Feast Day—St. Paul’s Sunday
